We identify and address software engineering problems
across experiments and projects, and provide common solutions.
We also support and service CERN project teams that produce
software for HEP experiments to improve their software
development practices based on defined and supported common
standards, methods, and tools. Our activities include:
Collaboration and technology transfer to the teams producing software in
Consultancy on software engineering and information systems
Methods and tools for software engineering
Development of projects of general use, in cooperation with the experiments
Process Engineering and Software Technology
Activities focus on: information, the organisation of the software
development process, and the appropriate methods and tools
to support them.

Information and Documentation Systems
Information and Documentation are crucial for experiments with thousands
of physicists, lasting several decades. The IPT group took part in the
original development of WWW and we now
use this technology for experimental physics.
